Arsenal display against watford had Martin Keown screaming at the TV

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown criticised the gunners shambolic display against Watford after throwing away a two goal lead in the second half of the game.

The Arsenal legend was literally screaming during the second half of the game which saw the Hornets having 31 shots on goal with 23 of them coming in after the break, statistically it was the worst defensive display by the Gunners since Opta’s records began in 2003.

Arsenal got themselves in front and in control of the game with two first half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and look to be closing in on another three points to move up the premier league table until they messed up themselves.

Watford remain bottom of the table and still chasing their first win of the season. They were unlucky not to get their win against Arsenal after Tom Cleverly and Roberto Pereyra pulled them level after the break.

Martin Keown told BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan, “I was screaming at the TV screen quite a few times while I was watching the second half of Arsenal’s draw with Watford on Sunday, watching them in the MOTD2 production office, it certainly felt that way.”

“From having their opponents by the throat when they were 2-0 up, Arsenal inexplicably handed Watford a way back into the game in the most naive way when they conceded after trying to play out of their own area from a goal-kick.”

“But what made things worse was that Unai Emery’s team could not react when things went wrong for them. Instead, they disintegrated.”

“That one mistake was enough to derail them completely. In one moment, all their confidence evaporated. After that, they could not make a decision, and they could not make a pass.”

“Their game-plan simply disappeared. They were fortunate only to concede one more goal – from a penalty after another silly foul by David Luiz – and were left hanging on for a point against the Premier League’s bottom side.”

“It could easily have been a lot worse.”

It is left to be seen if Arsenal manager Unai Emery decides to change his style of play as we’ve seen a lot of errors from it so far this season.
