MLS All-Stars could not get themselves on the scoresheet as they were defeated 3-0 by Atletico.
The MLS team had Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and League highest goal scorer Carlos Vela but they couldn’t do much against an Atletico side who were superb on the night.
Despite winning 59% of the ball possession the MLS All-Star could only muster 10 shots on goal with just 2 on target as compared with Atletico 19 shots and having 8 of them on target.
The MLS team couldn’t break through a cohesive Atletico Madrid defence with Atletico showing more intent in the game.
The game was delayed for 40 minutes due to heavy rain fall. Goals from new signings Joao Felix, Marcos Llorente and Diego Costa was enough to see off the games at the Orlando Exploria stadium.
It becomes the fourth straight years that the MLS All-Stars have failed to win against a top-flight European club since their 2-1 win over Tottenham in 2015.
“It’s more an occasion for the whole league,” said MLS All-Star and Orlando City Head Coach James O’Connor after the match. “I think it gives a great representation of the league. It’s a chance for some of the young players to test themselves against some of the best players in the world. And I think equally we have some of the best players in the world.”
