ICC Friendly: Marco Asensio suffers anterior cruciate ligament injury

Real Madrid will be missing Marco Asensio for the most part of the 2019/2020 season as he suffers an ACL injury in the friendly game against Arsenal.

The gunners took a 2-0 lead in the first half through a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette and his fantastic link up with Aubemeyang who rounded the goalkeeper for the second goal. Arsenal looked to have more control in the game but the tempo of the game changed in second half.

The Spanish international played a vital role in Real Madrid’s comeback against Arsenal after scoring the equaliser as second half substitute.

Asensio looked set to be a vital player in Zidane’s plan for next season but now could be sidelined for up to nine months according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid player was stretchered off the pitch in pain after suffering the injury. An official statement from the club on Wednesday states that he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his left knee. He will now be expected to fly back to spain to undertake a surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.

Real Madrid might be forced into the transfer market as a result of this horrific injury to their talented young player. It is also understood that a loan deal with Arsenal for Dani Ceballos could be dealt a blow if Real Madrid opt to find a in-house solution to Asensio absence.
